Special Worship with Corey Schlosser-Hall and his U2 cover band, “Eyes Wide Open”
Our Special Worship Service on August 12th was with Corey Schlosser-Hall and his U2 cover band, “Eyes Wide Open” CoreySchlosser-Hall (Presbytery Executive of The North Sound Presbytery and former Director of Communications for the Presbytery of Seattle) earned his Ph.D. in Communications from the University of Minnesota and became fascinated with U2’s music years ago. The Irish band, U2, is unparalleled in expressing Christian spiritual themes through their music and then seeking in every way to live the message. The lead singer, “Bono,” is credited with using his fame to bring attention to many of the great issues of our time, and many consider his personal appeal instrumental in convincing President George Bush to earmark $15 billion for AIDS relief in Africa. The band’s concerts follow a “liturgical order,” with gathering music, prayers of confession and intercession, offering of self, and most importantly, sending into the world to be God’s people, serving after the example of Jesus. As Corey puts it, “They are not a ‘Christian’ band in music market definitions, yet they pray, praise and argue with God through their music and performance.” |
